Birth Story of Crist
Crist Rigotti’s Birth 3/01/08

Our story begins when my water broke on February 29, 2008 at 10pm. My husband, Buddy, and I were so excited, anticipating the birth of our first son. We called Marve to tell her what was going on and she told us to get some rest before active labor begins. But we were too excited to go to sleep right away. Buddy got out his timer and we began timing the contractions. They were consistent, but very mild and easy. We then decided to try to get some rest. I dozed off and on in between contractions. By 1:30am, contractions were getting stronger and I had Buddy call Marve and ask her to come over. I was getting more nervous and I knew if Marve was there I would feel more comfortable with the situation. Marve arrived at our home at 2:30am and checked my progress.I was only dilated to 2cm, so we all went back to bed to get some rest. By 4:30am I was out of bed pacing the floor with strong contractions. At 5am, I woke up Buddy and told him to go wake up Marve because my contractions were coming strong and hard. Marve checked me again and I was only 4cm. Marve had me get in the shower which did help me relax a little and ease some of the pain. Shortly after my shower, active labor began and I got into the birthing pool. This is when I tuned out everything around me to focus on my contractions/breathing.At this point there was something inside of me that took over and I don’t remember much of the labor. By 1:30pm on March 1, Crist’s head was crowned and I was able to begin pushing. Well, the pushing stage lasted much longer than expected. I pushed for five hours trying many different positions and ways to help baby through the birth canal. Baby Crist’s heart rate was fine and I was doing ok so I wasn’t the least bit worried.I was just extremely tired since I hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before. Finally at 6:27pm, baby Crist was born in the water. He was 8lb 6oz and 21 ¾ in. long. It was such an awesome experience and I felt so empowered after giving birth naturally. I am so thankful for Marve and her two assistants who helped me through the birthing process. They were so caring, patient, and gentle. I will do a homebirth again with Marve.Koryn and Buddy Rigotti
